I have quite a few cigar cutters. Some are very basic and utilitarian, the only thought I have about them is when I use it to achieve a clean cut on my cigar.
Some cutters are as simple as this one above, while others are a little more artistic and thoughtful. I appreciate the consideration and craftsmanship that went into making them. A well-crafted cigar cutter can add to the allure and ambience of the room, just like a unique ashtray.
Cigars first became fashionable in Europe in the late 18th century, after returning soldiers from the Peninsular Wars (1807–1814) brought the habit back from Spain. Early cigars were often hand-rolled and closed at the head with a natural tobacco leaf “cap.” That “cap” requires the end of the cigar to be cut off.
